"Do they sell the same things they do here in the US???"
The answer to the question is both yes and no. The store had 4 floors and categorized the merchandise by floor.
First floor which is the "supermarket/grocery store" was nothing like a American Walmart as it had all the fresh Chinese food that spoils, the meat department had a wall of aquariums filled with still living sea animals, fish, etc.
Second floor resembled a Walmart layout with their handy aisle by aisle product line-up. There was the perfume section of the floor, jewelery section, sporting goods and electronics. The following sections weren't all of the same floor but I figured giving you a floor by floor listing would be tedious and just a little too anal retentive.
Then there was the electronics department that has the most beautiful 50+" flat panel, HDTV, HiDef, 1080p, etc Television on sale for only 28,000 yuan on their entry level product and up for more bells and whistles. (Roughly 8 yuan = $1 US dollar)
The one purchase that I will be making with my first paycheck is a second chair for the apartment.
I'd love a mini-couch/loveseat to sit on something beside a wood chair or my bed but I laugh everytime I think of someone trying to get it through the gated door and make the 90 degree turn into my apartment.
