Here is a recap of the wedding day Saturday.
The wedding breakfast, the groom's hosted lunch, the activities in the afternoon were all great.
Karen looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. I took many pictures during this weekend. Something is wrong with my camera as it would take a couple pictures out of focus and then work just fine again. When the wedding dinner and ceremony are about to begin, the new husband/wife stand out greeting all their guests. I stood outside holding a huge wand-like tube filled with confetti. They use these tubes instead of the American version of throwing rice.
The wedding dinner and ceremony were beautiful. I learned many things about Chinese marriage customs. During the ceremony a friend will come to speak for/about them. The husband/wife will stand up and bow to each set of parents. Next event is the wearing of the wedding rings. There has been a nice pyramid of champagne glasses sitting to the right of the marriage table. What I noticed was the couple drank Chinese Moonshine instead of making a champagne toast.
Now it is time for the best man to speak about the happy couple. Of course it is all in Chinese so I do not understand anything he says. Then the happy couple bow their heads in a prayer and then it is time to cut the one-tier wedding cake. Now it is time for the happy couple to go to each table to give a toast. After looking at the number of tables I am thinking the happy couple will soon be the happy drunk couple. Finally, after visiting all the tables Karen leaves the room to change into a nice dress.
Dinner has began. My Oh My! What strange (to an American) dishes are served.
After dinner most people leave for home. The new husband, wife, and the wedding party leave the dinner room to go to the KTV room.
I finally arrive back in my hotel room with my roommate Kendy much later and fall asleep quite quickly.
I arrived back in Shenzhen Sunday night but after a 9 hour bus ride I went to bed early.
I had set up 3 teachers to teach my weekend classes. Today I was called to the office and repremanded for 30 minutes because I was not here all weekend long even after I had cleared it with them that I was attending the wedding. Apparently the Friday night teacher was late. I never teach on Sunday. Ever. They tried to call me to tell me they wanted me to teach on Sunday. I am thinking that the school's left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
This ends a very interesting weekend.
